I plan on upgrading my new computer. I got an offer from HP to get windows 8 for just $15 because it came with windows 7 brand new about a month ago. Just the achievements are worth that much.

I found out there is a free 90 day trial version available so I got it just to see how I liked it and so far it is looking good. Very different so it will take some time to get a feel. Tried out smartglass but seems like it isn't much use without a touchscreen.
Best part is the easy achievement games that are free. Solitaire- 3 achievements - totaling 40GS - 20 minutes to complete Mahjong- 3 achievements- totaling 25GS - 10-15 minutes to complete Minesweeper- 4 achievements- totaling 50GS - 20 minutes to complete Adera- 18 achievements- totaling 200GS - <2 hours to complete Taptiles- 20 achievements- totaling 200GS- Appears time consuming Wordament- 17 achievements- totaling 200GS- Challenging but cheating helps Jetpack Joyride- 20 achievements- totaling 200GS- Appears time consuming |

So if I do the 90 Day trial version just for the games.....can I go back to my windows 7 without issue? I'm worried about not being able to revert back and losing files.

From what I understand you will need to do a complete re-install to go back to windows 7. I made copies of all my important stuff before I installed 8. When I installed it I think there was an option to set up a dual boot which should enable you to keep 7 and all your other stuff but I am not 100% sure how that will work.

I'm getting my wife a new laptop for Christmas and it's coming with Windows 8. I'll definitely be hi-jacking her computer when she's not around

I am new to the forum and this is my first post. I hope this helps someone.
![]() I upgraded to windows 8 on my new laptop and went back to Windows 7 3 hours later. I bought the laptop for work to run a certain program that need a faster processor. I installed the program on Windows 7 and it ran great. I installed windows 8 for the $15 (+$20 for the disk) and after the hour and a half later Windows 8 was running. It is made for a tablet or touch screen. I took me a few minutes to find the normal stuff as the lay out changed. But the big problem is it won't even install the program, I tried for hours. So I put Windows 7 back on and everything is up and running. I have heard nothing but problems with Windows 8, unless you have a touch screen I wouldn't even consider Windows 8. Geos |

I can't say I agree with windows 8 being nothing but problems. I will agree that there is a very drastic change in the way many things function but overall after a few weeks I love the changes. Don't get me wrong there are some minor issues but I am sure within time and updates it will get better. As for a hour and a half to install makes me wonder if the machine you were installing to was on the low end for minimum requirements. My computer I have it installed on is nothing special but was loaded and ready to use within less than 30 minutes of the time I inserted the installation disc. If you don't mind me asking what type of CPU and how much RAM do you have. Personally I am running an Athalon x2 64 with 3GB of RAM and that seems to be adequate for what I need. I have been fortunate so far in that every piece of software I have tried to install has worked just fine. While I can't say for sure it may very well be that the software you are trying to install has not been upgraded to be compatible yet. Unfortunately if you need this for work It is definitely a deal breaker. The touch screen is certainly a feature you want to be able to have available with this OS. Most of the features are designed to work most efficiently by touch and honestly that is one of my few problems with using it because I do not have a touch screen. As I have said there is a learning curve and it's not perfect (Software never is) but in my opinion it is a much needed upgrade to windows. Again welcome to the site and should you decide to give it another shot and need any help or tips I would be glad to help out any way I can. |

I installed it on an i5 2.7ghz 4gb ram. It took an hour and a half to download and install it.(took longer to go back to Windows 7) I think that the reason it wouldn't install the program I need is that there are less than 100 computers in the world with the program I use. The screen-filter software that is built into Windows 8 wouldn't let me install, even when I turned it off.
I am sure with more time using it, it would get easier to use. I think the frustration with it turned me off it for awhile. Geos |
